App maintenance

App maintenance and support

Keep your app working and accepted by the stores. We update target API levels and dependencies, fix bugs and make small improvements, priced as fixed jobs instead of an open-ended contract.

What you get

  • Target API and SDK updates for Google Play
  • A written summary of findings
  • Fixes for the agreed issues
  • A tested release build

Why apps need regular updates

Every year Google Play raises the minimum target API level for new apps and updates. An app that falls behind cannot publish updates, and one that falls too far behind stops being shown to new users on newer Android versions. Libraries and login or payment SDKs change too, so an app left alone for a year or two usually needs work before its next release.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Free discovery call

A 15 to 30 minute call to understand what you want to build. No obligation.

  2. Step 2

    Written scope and milestones

You get a clear scope, price and timeline before any work starts. Larger projects begin with a small first milestone.

  3. Step 3

    Build and hand-over

The work is delivered in milestones, with no surprise invoices along the way.

Questions

What is the Google Play target API requirement?
Google Play requires new apps and updates to target a recent Android API level, and raises the level every year, usually by the end of August. If your app misses it, you cannot publish updates until it is upgraded.
How much does app maintenance cost?
A target API update or a few focused fixes is typically £300 to £950, and larger upgrades £700 to £1,700. Small improvements start from £650.
Do you offer a monthly plan?
We price maintenance per job, so you only pay for work that is needed. If you need regular updates, we can agree a schedule in writing.
Can you work on an app someone else built?
Yes. We start with a short code review, then agree the fixes and updates in writing before any work starts.
